Thanks to you, a smoke-free Minnesota is a reality. Because of your dedication and hard work, everyone can breathe easier.
As of October 1, 2007, smoking is no longer be permitted in public workplaces with two or more employees or on public transportation – this includes bars, restaurants and private clubs.
Business owners are required to make reasonable efforts to prevent smoking inside their establishment. Failure to comply by business owners or smokers is a petty misdemeanor carrying a fine of $300.
Exemptions include private residences, automobiles and hotel rooms.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Like many smoke-free laws, the Freedom to Breathe Act will face challenges from opponents. Together we have to stay vigilant and informed. It’s up to us to keep Minnesota smoke-free!
